Las Colinas Convention Centre in Texas opens
The mixed-use facility has been designed by Edinburgh-based architecture studio RMJM. It covers an area of 275,000 square feet featuring angular walls while its cantilevered forms are wrapped in perforated copper. Use of copper helps in gradual patination of the building surface and will eventually prevent it from corrosion. The facility houses 50,000 square feet of column free exhibit hall, a ballroom spanning 20,000 square feet as well as 20 spacious meeting rooms vertically clad in copper, glass and steel.
The building imbibes an open plan concept to facilitate various events and meetings. Its vertical shape allows utilisation of optimum space while slashing carbon emissions, increasing the shading and reducing energy consumption.
The facility features a cafe and a spacious outdoor shaded deck on its second level. The building's third floor encompasses twelve rooms to serve meetings and classes as well as a junior ballroom which can be segregated into eight separate rooms. It is also adorned with rooftop garden terraces which allow glimpses of the surrounding landscape.
