It’s that time of year again; registration is now being accepted for entries in the 2011 State Fair food contests.
Below you’ll find highlights of Home Goods food-related contests and some helpful hints. We’re posting the link to the contest rules on Eaton Wright’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/eatonwright
According to the SC State Fair website, “A Professional Exhibitor is defined as anyone who has earned more than $1,000 during a calendar year by selling their items, teaching the subject, doing extended exhibiting, or involving themselves in other professionally related activities in a capacity that would give the entrant unfair advantage over a hobbyist. Unless otherwise designated as a Professional section, all classes should be entered by Amateurs.”Adluh will match up to $20 per person in all classes for winning recipes using a minimum of two cups of Adluh flour. Winners will need to show proof of purchase for each recipe by attaching the bottom panel of the Adluh flour bag and UPC code to a printed or typed 81/2-by-11 sheet of paper with the contestant’s name, address and phone number and the check stub from the State Fair indicating the winning entry. has two categories, yeast breads and whole grain breads. Judging is based on flavor, texture, appearance and creativity, themes and decorations are encouraged as part of the presentation. All entries must be prepared in disposable containers. Entries must be original and baked with Fleischmann’s Yeast as an ingredient (RapidRise, Active Dry or Bread Machine Yeast), whole grain bread entries must contain at least 50 percent whole grains – whole wheat flour, rye flour and/or other whole grain ingredients such as oatmeal, flax seed, bran cereals, bulgur, etc. All recipes entered become property of AHC Foods. Local prize money: Yeast bread: $150 first place, $75 second, $50 third; Whole grain, $100 first place, $50 second. Ingredients and methods are wide open from all types of fruit pies to fruit/cream or custard combos. Entries must be original and be prepared with at least 1/4 cup of Karo corn syrup (Light, Lite or Dark). Any type of pie crust is allowed (refrigerated pastry, crumb or other).
