My name's Stephen, and I'm a Migration Assistant convert

I used Mac OS X's Migration Assistant for the first time at the weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked.

My normal practice is to start from scratch with a new Mac, installing only the programs I know I really need, and copying my Documents folder (and certain other items). You don't get many opportunities to give a computer a thorough clean out. But when the iMac G5 died, I didn't have time to mess around. I wasn't the only user of that system, so I had to be pragmatic.

After buying a used 20in iMac, I reinstalled the operating system and let Software Update do its thing.

Meanwhile, taking the G5 apart to extract the hard drive wasn't the simplest task, but the instructions at ifixit.com were very helpful. Then it was a two-minute job to fit the drive into a $25 generic USB case and plug it into the new(er) iMac. I ran Migration Assistant, told it to move everything it could, then left it to work its magic.

Touch wood, the results were almost trouble-free. I had to re-enter a licence key or two, but that was about it.

I'm not planning to use Migration Assistant every time I acquire a new Mac - I still believe that cleaning out the cruft now and again is a sensible move - but I have a far more positive attitude to this tool than before.

Visionaries are often hard to figure out and follow. We are all stuck in our own comfort zones. Dropping the floppy was earth shattering, but guess who was right all along? Mr. Jobs. He foresaw that the internet, and thus, everything "i", was the way to go and OSX Lion is confirming that. I am empathetic to all of those shaken by change ... I was the last hold out to Appleworks ... but, I have become a "good soldier" and have embraced all the changes with belief that our ultimate Apple Guru will always be right. Thank you

Can you get excited about the new iMac?
More of a question.

Review: OS X Lion is here and rawrtastic

Since Lion installs from the hard drive itself, not optical media, installation should be faster than 10.6 for most. As with any Mac App Store-purchased program, the Mac OS X Lion can be downloaded and run on any computer tied to a single AppleID.

Mac driver for HP Laserjet 1020?

My PC had to return to the factory. I'll have to rely on my trusty iMac G5 OSX v 10.4.9, but no drivers Mac 1020. Surely there is another driver that works. Anyone? In case anyone cares about blowing my HP desktop NIC. Since it was under warranty, I took it to Geek Squad … a week later, still not working. It seems like not the third NIC so you have to go back to HP, which is likely to replace the motherboard and my hard drive clean …. sheeeeeeesh!

Well, well, not officially supported by HP, the driver of 1022 will focus on 1020. That was done for the 1020 series, but not a driver specific for 1020, 1022 only. Can cause problems in the future, if they ever update the driver, but for most, will have no problem. Here's the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?
