2012 Jeep Wrangler With Pentastar V6 Surfaces on eBay
Officially the 2012 Jeep Wrangler has not yet been launched. Although dealers have already received order guides, Chrysler has been mum about this model. So, we are naturally surprised to know that this model has gone for sale on eBay . The 2012 Jeep Wrangler with a Pentastar V6 engine has been posted on the site by an Atlanta dealership. Interestingly, the dealership is offering this model at a price lower than the sticker price.
Apart from this “surprising sale”, the most interesting fact about the 2012 model is its new engine. The new Wrangler is fitted with a 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 engine. The engine is same as that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee . The engine delivers a power of 260 horsepower and there is no word out on the torque output of this engine. But, we can expect it to be better than the 237 ft-lb torque output of last year’s model. The new engine is a significant improvement over the previous 3.8 liter V6 unit, which powered the Wrangler from 2007 to 2011. The power output of the 3.8 liter V6 was 202 horsepower.
The new engine also delivers better fuel economy when compared to its predecessor. EPA has rated the two-door 2012 Wrangler at 17 mpg in city and 21 mpg in highway driving. The figures are same for both five-speed automatic and six-speed manual transmissions. The 2012 Wrangler Unlimited is rated at 16 mpg in city and 21 mpg in highway driving with manual transmission. This may not seem good in comparison to compact cars delivering 40 mpg, but in comparison to 15/19 mpg in city/highway figures of the 2011 model, the new numbers are significantly improved.

I have a 70 M38A1 CDN3 put in to my garage as a family "hand me down". It runs as is (other than a leaking fuel line). The body has definitely seen better days, but the frame is solid.
I've been tossing around ideas on how to tackle this project. I have already went through the "Keep making it bigger" phase with my 77 K10 with the K30 drivetrain, it was fun but not too "highway friendly" for weekend drives and most trail riding. Either the trails were too small for the truck or too easy.
I'd like to keep this jeep small/stock. I'm looking towards 31x9.50 TSL's to keep the axles happy.
The drivetrain I'd like to keep stock but the 24 volt F-134 worries me a little. I like to have the option of going to any local parts store should I be away from home and need a part. That's why I am leaning towards swapping in a 4.3L TBI from one of the zillion vehicles that they were put in over the years. I've read about these swaps but there's not much reading on early CJ's/M38A1's.
I want to keep the Jeep looking as close to stock as possible. I don’t want to see the exhaust running outside the frame rails. It will be upgraded with some better/newer safety stuff such as front discs, seat belts, and a roll bar similar to those from a CJ5 from that era.
I’m not concerned about the mechanical part of this swap, more with the fuel, wiring and exhaust, possible steering issues. I’m not against upgrading the steering at that time if the current system is in the way of the engine. If the steering does need changing, what donor vehicle should I be looking at, or will that need to be bought from the aftermarket too? I’m not too worried about the fuel, I think an aftermarket pump on the frame will be fine…maybe, maybe not… really open to ideas, input from someone who’s done this swap or one similar. If I have the complete vehicle that the engine came from, should I still buy an aftermarket wire harness? I’m an industrial electrician by trade so wires really don’t scare me. What should I be looking for to get the exhaust to tuck in between the frame rails? I’ve seen the manifolds from a Chevy Astro van/GMC Safari mentioned, but not going in to much detail as to why.
Is there a formula for calculating the final RPM this motor would rev while driving Hwy speed (80km/50mph)?
The stock tranny is the T90 and diff gears are stock 5.38’s.
