Today on FOX Sports Arizona: D-backs vs. Dodgers, 1 p.m.

Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks' Ian Kennedy could receive plenty of consideration later this year when votes are tabulated for the NL Cy Young Award.

The surging staff aces will square off Sunday when the Dodgers try to sweep the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

In this enticing pitching matchup, Kershaw and Kennedy will each be looking to match Philadelphia's Roy Halladay for the NL lead with 14 wins.

Kershaw (13-4, 2.68 ERA) hopes to improve to 3-0 versus the Diamondbacks this season while beating them for the sixth consecutive start overall.

"He's one of those guys that every time he gets the ball you know he'll be ready," manager Don Mattingly told the Dodgers' official website.

The left-hander has surrendered four runs - none earned - in 14 innings versus Arizona this year, striking out 19. During his five-game winning streak in the series, which includes three victories in Phoenix, Kershaw has a 0.82 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 33 innings.

Kershaw has also won five straight starts overall, surrendering four earned runs in 38 2-3 innings. He pitched a six-hitter for his fourth complete game of 2011 in Monday's 6-2 win at San Diego.

Arizona star Justin Upton, who leads the team with a .298 average, 22 homers and 68 RBIs, is 0 for 13 with six strikeouts against Kershaw.

Kennedy (13-3, 3.17) comes in seeking his third victory in as many starts against Los Angeles in 2011 while also trying to win his sixth straight outing overall.

The right-hander had only faced the Dodgers (52-60) once before this year, allowing six runs in 4 1-3 innings of a 9-5 loss to Kershaw on April 13, 2010. He's given up three runs in 13 innings while striking out 15 in this year's meetings.

Kennedy has posted a quality start each time out during his current five-start winning streak, which includes a 3-2 home victory over the Dodgers on July 16. He allowed two runs in eight innings of a 5-2 win over San Francisco on Monday.

"He's very studious about where to throw the ball. ... He doesn't make mistakes," manager Kirk Gibson told the Diamondbacks' official website.

Matt Kemp has gone 2 for 8 with three strikeouts in his career against Kennedy, but both hits have left the yard. Kemp is tied for second in the NL with 26 homers, including four in 11 games against the Diamondbacks.
